Fail Phase officially OVER!

So, I thought that the past twoish weeks would be crazy, but man, I didn't see that much crazy coming. I've been away from home so much, with so much to get done, it's been madness. But things seem to finally be calming down. Which means, hey, I might actually post. Wahoo!

I've been sewing again, and writing, and I seem to finally gotten over my creative/life fail phase. So this post shall be a few of my recently finished projects.

First off I finished the mushroom. The mushroom. The gignormous mario mushroom that I've been working on for over a year now (cause man, it takes a long time to gather that much stuffing). And yes, in case you were wondering, I did do a happy dance when I finally sewed the last little part.

Yay pictures!

The Mushroom being awesome
And here's the Mushroom next to my sewing binder, for size reference.
Chillin' with the binder
Um, yeah, I tried to get a good picture to show you how big this thing is, but it didn't work too well. Serious, you could kill someone with this thing by throwing it at them. There's no way to capture that in a photo.
Trying to show you the mass of this thing
And then I had to take a picture of the whole gang together
From left to right: Mario star, Death mushroom, The Mushroom of Awesomeness, and the extra life heart
And, just because it's awesome
Wahoo! I love getting the star in mario

Yeah, so that's my most recent project.

Next up is the tie dye shirt I made. This thing is annoying. It's still leaking die in the wash! Gah! It's already ruined/booted-to-the-sewing-pile two shirts! But I still love it. It's so comfy.

Heh, it's hard to get a picture of your stomach

I also had a giant tie dye shirt laying around that I made a million years ago. Since I made a new one, I thought this one needed to become a rockin' skirt.

Front view
It was pretty simple. I just cut below the armpits of the shirt to make a long tube, and made a waste band to fit me, and sewed them together.
Side view
The tube was bigger than the waste band, so I made ruffles in the back.
Ruffle detail
It's pretty much the most comfortable skirt I own, and matches with most anything. Win.

Well, that's all the projects for right now. Hope you like 'em ^_^

--------------------------------------------------

I think this here blog needs some actual content, instead of my just rambling about how busy my life is, so I'm going to be re-thinking what the heck I'm trying to accomplish here. (and don't worry, for those of you who've said you like the random, it will be random. Just something worth while too.)

I will get back to you on that, but until then, enjoy this virtual cupcake.

And also this space cupcake, cause I found it on google, and thought it was funny.

In which winter haunts me, I try to be a less lame blogger content wise, and my foot is in a brace dealio

Well, now that you're up to date on the epic war between me and the Homework Troll, I'll give you some regular life updates. Such as the fact that winter came back, and I broke my foot.

What you say? I broke my foot?

Yes, it is true. During the wonderful Spring weather, that is now gone, I started going for runs. Well, on one such run, I was going down the street, and my foot just started hurting like heck. And it didn't stop. Okay, it was better when I was just messing around at home than when I was running, but you know what I mean. Anyway, after a few days, I finally got myself a doctor's appointment. And yeah, I gave my self a lovely stress fracture, and probably tendinitis, which is all sorts of fun. So I've got to wear an obnoxious sandal/boot thing for 4-5 weeks. Which really sucks. It's obnoxious I tell you. OBNOXIOUS!!!

And, the warm weather left again. I have an inch or so of snow out side. Botheration.

But! To make up for the fact that I went a little MIA (nothing I could about it, but still) and that my life currently involves either an obnoxious boot thing or the Homework Troll, I shall upload some pictures I managed to take of a crafty project I did before the siege.

I took an old journal I had. It was cute, but really not my style, so it had sat in my closet for a very long time. Finally I decided to get it out and bust out the fabric and glue.

Before

Tada!! I now keep it in my purse and use it for all my random writing inspiration needs. And also random phone numbers that I have no where else to write down :P

After: Opened up

After: Closed
Yeah... So that's it really. See ya later people!

Prom dress, of epicness (and yes I just rhymed. you're jealous of my mad poetry skilz)

*sigh of relief* well, that week was certainly crazy. I won't get into the details of my stupid homework, but I will tell you the other part.

Which was the fact that I sewed a prom dress in two days.

Yes, you heard (read?) right, two days.

You see, previously mentioned stupid homework took up the week until Thursday night. So, I sat down with my fabric choices (we shall get to those later), and got started.

Then, the next day I had off from school (insert hallelujah chorus here), so I spent literally the entire day sewing. The next morning, I finished up, with my mother hemming the bottom (because she insists that formals must be hemmed by hand, and she is so much faster at hand stitching than me)

It. was. madness. I haven't sewn for that long, all at one time before (though Halloween was close).

The best part was the fabric I was working with. Hmm, instead of trying to explain this, let's get some pictures first, shall we? (what? You ask how I dot pictures with my camera broken? Yes, I did somehow manage to strangle these pictures out of it for you guys :D)
(yeah, nothing fun today. Sorry! I'm tired!)

so the bottom part was this awesomely shiny, shimmery midnight blue fabric that I got for no real reason at the fabric store. Unfortunately, I only had 2 yards, which was very hard to get a ball gown out of.

Next, the top part was a scrap piece from one of my mom's old projects. It was about 11 inches tall, and 2 feet wide, and I manage to squeeze a top out of it. It was intense, let me tell you. I was crossing my fingers that I'd have enough the entire time.

So yeah, I designed, and sewed (my inner grammar nazi is twitching. I don't know how to make this correct!) a prom dress in two days.

Wow, ok now we get to why the heck I did this in the first place. So there are these people who put on a stag formal every year, and my friends and I were planning on going. But, I didn't have a dress to wear to this thing, because though our family has had several weddings and proms and what not, my sisters are tall, skinny twigs, which meant I couldn't fit into their dresses without wearing 4 inch heels and a word taken out because it was setting of content watchers (yeah I know, lamesauce). So of course I made my own. And of course I didn't plan enough time to go to the fabric store for more materials. And of course my homework exploded in my face until two days before. I think I'm insane.....

The dance itself was pretty epic. I danced almost all the dances (yes! This was a dance were people actually danced! non of this hanging out business), and I asked for most of them, which is shocking if you could see me around strangers. We totally learned a Pride and Prejudice dance, which I find fantastic in all sorts of ways ^_^

And I totally tripped over a chair into a photo shoot thing, which was pretty much funneh. And a friend and I almost won the twist competition (we so should have! :P)

All in all, it was most fun. and that is what I did this week. Phew! it's over!

Crafty-time Tuesday--Wednesday edition :P

So for some reason or another, I can't seem to get back into the swing of life. I'm still in denial that school has started, and I've been at it for like two weeks! I still get like 30 emails every time I check my gmail. Gah!
I want to shake this mood off desperately! I'm yanking on my hair as we speak!
It's annoying!

So anyway, to help with this, I promise to post a review of Redwall, by Brian Jacques tomorrow (one down, 29 to go. I need to get to the library :-/), a Writing Friday actually on Friday, and probably something on Saturday, because after a super awesome nerd party, I'm bound to gush about it here :P (and then I will sort through my emails also, tomorrow)

Oh, and before we get going on our craftynessness here, I'd like to say that my previous decision of posting one new project or two old ones is hereby proclaimed lame, and I will post whatever I darn well feel like it! Ahem. Moving on now :P

Okey dokey! This first one is something I *gasp* actually used a pattern for!
It's made from this loverly soft fleecy fabric that my amazingly wonderful sisters got for me when I was going through a time of misery (dentists are evil.....) to cheer me up.
And me (or is it I in this case?), being a horrible person and all, didn't get around to actually using it till several months after the fact. >_<

and it's side ways.... >_< Bring out the Christmas presents! (duh nuh nuh!) This is for my bestest friend. I made it using the same kind of yarn and pattern as my purple one (http://dorksideoftheforce.blogspot.com/2009/12/fuzzy-attack-dragon-kitties-and-british.html)

And, the big one... (duh nuh nuh nuh nuh)

This shirt I am insanely proud of. This concept has been floating around in my head for a while, and I'm ecstatic that it turned out so great.
so with out further ado, I give you,

The Jailbird!

(AGH! another sideways picture! NOOOOSSSS!!!)

(uh, yeah I have no idea what I am doing with my hands in that one >_> <_<)
super duper long sleeves, which I loves to death!
(WHOOT! Another head turner! >_<)

so yeah, I took two shirts that were the exact same (different colors) and cut strips and sewed them together :D
I'm thinking I might stencil 'Jail Bird' on the back, but seeing as my skilz in that area are some what rudimentary, I'm undecided.

So yesh, that's this week's episode! Tune in next time to see if Jessica chooses Blake. Does Jake win her back? Will Nancy find her car keys?!? (yeah, sorry, it just sounded like some soap opera XP)

Lol, now that I've established that me+tired+blog post=dangerous thing, I think I'll call it a night :D

Introducing! Crafty-time Tuesdays!

So, as part of my BFS thing to keep a regular blogging schedule, AND as part of my BFS thing to post a lot more of my crafty stuffs, I give you,

Crafty-time Tuesdays!

(yes that was designed to hurt your eyes. What? I like neon...)

Every Tuesday I will either post a picture of something new I've made that week, OR two old things that I made a while ago.

This way I'll eventually get all my old projects posted :)

So this weeks installment is two old projects, because I'm still in shock of it being the new year, and school starting, and haven't been doing much.

This first one is one of my all time favorites. Mostly because it's soooo comfy. :D I think I might of got this shirt from my out-of-state sister. I'd rather it didn't have the Utah on it, but meh.

The sleeves make it feel all flowy-ish
Note the corset lace upness of the sides.
Woohoo!

This one was a ginormous t-shirt that I re-sized. It is also very comfy.

The sleeves, neckline, and hem all have this cool twisty design. It's kinda hard to see in the pictures, but these were the best I could get.

Lol. I just realized that both of these have random state names. I really don't know where I got these. :P
Good thing I like those states right? or I'd be in trouble.

AND, a bonus one to celebrate the grand opening of this.

Yep, it's the halloween costume that I said I'd post about and never did. Isn't the skirt epic?!
Oh, in case anyone is wondering, I am holding my wings up with one hand. So I didn't get my arm stuck behind my back. (I had to hold them up because I had started taking the whole thing off when my dad reminded me that I wanted pictures of it. Thanks daddy!)
And sorry about the crappy face covers today. As some of you may know, I have to use paint for this, and today I had to use a lap top mouse as well >_<

So yes, this shall be awesome.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

yeah, ok. i know i said that i would be doing this on dec. 1-12, but life had other plans.
but hey, i'm doing it now, and it shall be awesome non the less.
so..... i suppose i should start off with why i'm doing this. in some aspects of life, i'm a shy person. shocking i know :P sometimes i think that people can read my thoughts and know how awesome i think they are. in reality, not everyone is psychic, so i sometimes come off as a slightly snobby person. i really do love you people! i just don't express it enough. in light of the holiday season, i thought this expression of appreciation was long over due. and what better time to do it than when a catchy phrase is already made up?!

to start out with, there are 12 days of this awesomeness. and about 19 people that first popped into my head when i thought of doing this, with other people i haven't thought of yet on the way i'm sure (and i will most likely be all embarrassed that i didn't think of those people sooner when i do.) to solve this problem (no, i sadly don't have time to make it the 24 days of christmas) i've decided to cut up all the names (uh, meaning they all get a tiny piece of paper) and put them in a hat or something. then everyday i'll draw out of the hat. if you don't get a day this year, it doesn't mean i don't love you! and i'll most definitely do you next year!

for the lucky winners (or unfortunate if you consider me probably embarrassing you a trial) i shall write you a letter telling you how awesome you are. then i will do a shout out on this blog of how awesome you are (note: as a general policy, i will not be using real names), because once just isn't enough! then i shall give you your choice of gifts.

you know that one person (or persons) in your life that you love to pieces, but don't know what to get them for christmas? you want to put some thought into it, but you don't want it to be the gift where they get that 'oh, that's nice. hmmm' look on their face. hopefully this will eliminate that. i have a decent variety of hobbies, and you will be able to choose which one you want a gift from.
so, say you want me to crochet you something? and you'd like a scarf. you tell me that, and then i'll put my creativity into the project, choosing patterns and what not. so that way i'm actually thinking about it, but i won't give a flop either. everyone's happy.

the hobbies i can think of off the top of my head are:
sewing
crochet
writing (this would mean a short story for you. and i can cast you as any character you want if you want to be in it)
i draw comics
guitar and piano
i do sculpey clay, but i make no promises in my proficiency
basically anything you think is in my skill field.

and if you can't decide, you have until november 2010 next year to 'redeem this coupon.' if you choose to wait, i will get you a different gift for christmas, but it might be something lame ;P

in exchange for all this awesomeness? just think about sharing the love (can't you just imagine me saying that in a hippy voice?) tell someone how much you appreciate them.

we interupt this NaNo broadcast......

O_O i got to see john schmitt (or however you spell his last name :P) on saturday! woohoo!
i can't believe it! i was about ten feet away or so!
Pictures:

Him doing his famous upside down playing:

the only sad part is i had to leave before it ended, or i might of gotten some of his other funny poses :)

anyhoo.....
in other exciting news, my camera is not actually dead, yet. i think it's on it's last leg. but, i did manage to get some pictures of my halloween costume in all its awesomeness ^_^
these are some mediocre shots of the skirt. i'll add the full body shots after i edit out my face (paint my good friend....) isn't it just so awesome!? sorry, not trying to brag too much. then again it did take me like five hours on the skirt alone :P
yes, i'm insane

it's dead as a door nail

well, this week has been very crazy. i finally decided on what i wanted to be for halloween. unfortunately this left me a week to make a rather complicated fairy costume, plus the costume that my sister decided on, an elf (meaning cool fantasy, not santa-ish.) also NaNo starts on sunday. plus homework=a very busy week.
so understandably i haven't gotten to posting pictures of past projects. but, in the course of things, i learned that my camera has died :'( i think it's the battery, but the battery is one of those weird ones that you have to order from the store. *sigh* so it's probably going to be somewhere around december when i can actually take pictures to post. *crosses fingers* sorry about that people.
until then i'll just have to tell you all about the NaNo process. and maybe whine about my camera.... :'( i especially wanted to post about my costume. it is going to be so epic i can't even tell you! i'm making the wings and everything. *sigh*
i sit here so very tired, but i don't want to go to sleep. i feel like i should be accomplishing something useful. maybe it's just because i've been running very hard this week. i'm not used to being able to just sit down and do nothing. maybe it'd be a lot better for us if we got used to being able to relax a little. running all the time can't be good for us. perhaps that is one of the biggest flaws of today's culture. we're always rushing around. is all this technology really helping? or does it just distract?
well, i leave you with that random bit of 'wisdom.' g'night! and remind me not to blog after 11. i usually wake up in the morning with a hundred spelling mistakes etc.

Brrrrr, it's cold outside!

haha, it's raining right now. i'm getting all snuffly and my hands are freezing. i don't know how i'm going to survive when the snow gets here :P

well, on to why i really started this post :)
these are pictures of projects i just happened to have on my computer, all ready to load up. lucky you! i'm feeling slightly out of it, so i wasn't going to go take any pictures today. unfortunatly, they're all sideways, and my computer is being a pain, and won't let me turn them. maybe i'll fix that later....

they're pretty self explanatory... the first one is a simple t-shirt recon. i added the bands of white to make it kind of hoodieish looking. i tried to make the neck line a simple swoop neck, but it wasn't working. it was sticking straight out. so i make it a cool looking boxy/cornered neckline, which i actually like better than my original plan
this next one is a shirt i made to go with a skirt that is very similar. i'll put pics of that up later this week hopefully. it is made out of nice and stretchy t-shirt material, and is and overall fun shirt to wear. the looks i get wearing it down the street are just plain entertaining XP
this one here was a shirt i got from one of my guy friends. it was getting holes in it all along the seams. i couldn't fix it for him to wear (making new seams would make it too small for him), so i made it for me. this is a very comfy shirt!

this one was just plain fun to make. all the chaos stitching was a blast! i basically went crazy with it, and it magically turned out :P go figure.
XD don't you just love my mad editing skills? as said earlier, i'm feeling out of it, so i was too lazy to go take a picture of it without my face in it. that left only good ol' paint.
anyhoo. this is a skirt that i made out of the coolest clock print ever! there are clocks, cogs etc. all over it. i might even use it in my halloween costume this year (so excited! halloween is my favorite holliday. it's socially acceptable to play dress up out of doors. not that that hinders me for the rest of the year, but doing it with everyone is a blast.)

this one i think is my favorite of the batch. it's a plushy of the mario death mushroom! woohoo! i made it out of an old bath towelish thingy and some white t-shirt fabric. my amazing sister painted the eyes with fabric paint. *claps*
speeking of her, *waves* you're awesome! just thought i'd remind you again.
